Buffalo

We saw a very large herd of buffalo. We also saw a smaller group in a small campground. What a shock to open your camper door and be greeted by one of these beasts.

Antelope

Mother antelope nwith her two babies. They crossed the road directly in front of us. They joined a herd of antelope.

Donkeys

The donkeys at Custer State Park got up close and personal.

Scenery at Custer State Park

The Black Hills of South Dakota are very rocky. This shows some of the beautiful rock formations.

The Millers at Crazy Horse

All the Millers pose for a picture in front of Crazy Horse.

Crazy Horse

We visited the Crazy Horse Memorial. I love it. We also saw Mount Rushmore from a distance, but didn't drive over since we had all seen it before.

June 27,2009

Today we travelled to the Crazy Horse Monument , Deadwood and Custer State Park. At the park we saw deer, antelope, prairie dogs, donkeys and hundreds of buffalo.

The weather was cool, but sunny. We did a lot of driving.

Tomorrow we will return to Deadwood for church and maybe a little time on the slot machines.

June 25,2009

Today we visited The Living History Farms in Iowa. We visited 3 farms: an Indian farm, an 1800 farm, and 1900 farm. Then we travelled to South Dakota where we are staying for the night. The weather is still hot.The last farm house reminded me of Grandma Carson's house in East Fultonham.

Amana Colonies

June 23, 2009

Happy Birthday to my favorite sister, Judy!!

We arrived in Amana, Iowa today at about 1:00 pm. It was 99 degrees when we pulled in the campground. There wasn't a cloud in the sky.

We decided to visit some of the shops in Amana and the have dinner there. We visited a Quilt Shop ( one of the top 10 in the US). We also visited the General Store. Arlene needed to see a dentist so we waited at the Ronneburg Restaurant. We had a few beverages as we waited.

A huge storm came up with 60 mile winds. So we waited it out at the restaurant. We had delicious German food, including beer.

Tomorrow we will return to the Amana Colonies. We want to visit a winery, the museum, the brewery, the woolen mill, a tractor barn, the Amana Church, and the wood shop (hopefully, another quilt shop-the guys just love those!)

Time with Mr. Lincoln

New Camper #3

Lincoln's Home

June 22,2009

Today we visited Lincoln's Home National Historic Site. It was very impressive and well worth the visit. Lincoln lived here inSpringfield, Illinois, for 25 years of his adult life. He was elected president will living in Springfield. All four of his sons were born here. Eddie died of tuberculosis
at the age of four. Two others died later. The only son who survived to adulthood was Robert the oldest.

Lincoln's law offices are still in operation here.

Another great day with temperatures above 100 degrees.
